How old do I need to be to use Red Flags Dating?

You’ll need to be 18 years of age or older to join the Red Flags community.

Do I have to pay for Red Flags Dating or is it free?

Red Flags Dating is completely free. We believe the opportunity to meet honest, open and authentic individuals shouldn’t need to be paid for. Plus, we want our community to take a slower approach to dating where you feel you have the time to explore, ask questions and learn.

Why am I being asked to verify my identity? Do I need to do this?

Red Flags wants to be the most open, honest, authentic, and inclusive community on the internet so that you feel 100% comfortable being your true self while on your journey of real connections. Ensuring that our users are “real” via the verification process promotes accountability and safety, the core tenants of healthy relationships.

Accordingly, we ask all community members to verify their identity through our trusted third party verification provider, Sumsub. Sumsub’s Privacy Policy can be viewed here. Red Flags Dating completes this check only to ensure your account is not fake or operated by a robot, that you are 18 years of age or older, and that your photos are of you! The information and selfie submitted to verify your ID is stored in our system along with the other information you've uploaded onto the app. Information is not shared to any other third parties for any reason, and we collect and use your photo for verification purposes as set out in our Privacy Policy. Don't worry, this photo won't be shown on your profile and it won't be visible to anyone in the Red Flags community. If you have issues with photo verifying your account or believe your account has been blocked inappropriately, please contact our friendly Support Team.

You will be able to build your Red Flags profile without completing verification, however passing our verification process is mandatory to be able to meet and chat with community members.

How does Red Flags Dating work

How many profiles can I view each day?

We want our community members to take a slower, higher intent approach to online dating. Building true connections takes time and the ability to be present. As such, you will be surfaced up to three (3) profiles each day. Each day, the profiles that you are not connecting with will be replaced with a new profile for you to explore (see ‘How do Connection Streaks work?’ for more information).

How does Question of the Day work?

We know how stressful conversation starters and small talk can be - so at Red Flags we want to try something different! Each day you and your daily profiles will be presented a Question of the Day (QoD). Instead of swiping or sending an emoji, we are asking users to show their interest by doing a bit of work (... finding love was never meant to be easy, right?) and sharing something meaningful beyond chats about the weather (boring!).

Don’t stress about anything else (... forget those corny pick up lines) and focus on answering the question as authentically and honestly as possible. These questions are designed to go beyond the superficial and help you show your true self and underlying motivations, wants and needs.

Your potential match won’t be able to see your deep and meaningful response to the QoD until they themselves decide to engage and answer that QoD - a different way to swipe!

You and your daily potential match will have 24 hours to both answer the QoD. If both of you answer, then you are building a Connection and a new QoD will be presented the next day. If none or one of you answers the QoD, then we’ll take this as a sign and replace that profile with a new daily profile to explore.

How do Connection Streaks work

Conscious daters have told us that going from chatting to an in-person date on traditional dating apps is a slow, frustrating and mostly unsuccessful experience. At Red Flags we want to solve this!

A Connection is built when you and a user both answer a Question of the Day (QoD), and a streak is built when QoD is answered on consecutive days. By creating connection streaks and sharing meaningful exchanges, users are able to connect more deeply and learn about one another in ways beyond what regular dating app chats traditionally enable.

By the time you both decide to go on a date (see ‘How do I go on a Date? How does Date Scheduling work?’ for more information), you’ll both have a sense of knowing the other person beyond their hobbies and corny pickup line attempts.

Here’s the catch. We don’t want you to stay in the chatting phase forever (... that’s boring and fatiguing), so if QoD isn’t answered by both you and your connection within 24 hours, then the connection is lost. At Red Flags, we want you to build on the momentum of your streak and opt-in to go on a date with the other person while you have their attention by clicking on the ‘I want to go on a date’ button. This signals your desire to move onto the next phase of your journey with that other person (see ‘How do I go on a Date? How does  Date Scheduling work?’ for more information). Plus, it also removes the stress and fear of asking directly!

How do I go on a Date? How does Date Scheduling work?

With a Connection Streak, you’re getting to better understand the other person (as much as you can with an online connection anyway). We also know that being the person asked to go on a date when you’re not fully interested can be stressful and as uncomfortable for the person asking you to go on that date. On Red Flags, we remove the pressure of asking!

Simply, with a Connection Streak, users can self-select to “Go on a date”. The potential match does not know your self-selection and it is only when they’ve also self-selected to go on a date with you that we celebrate a “match”.

Since both parties have blindly self-selected “Yes” to go on a date without pressure, true intentions have surfaced after pursuing the process of “conscious dating” via QoD.

Now that both parties have agreed to go on a date, we make it seamless to mutually see available times and lock in a date - think Calendly! No more back and forth and gaps between messages to lock in a suitable time that works for both of you - admin can be a buzzkill!

Why can’t I freely chat to my profiles? When can I do this?

On Red Flags Dating, the ability to “free chat” with another user is unlocked once you have scheduled a date. Why? Well, the goal of Red Flags Dating is to get you on dates and connecting with like minded people in real life (unlike other apps that want to keep you swiping and paying your subscription fees).
